Port Authority of New York & New Jersey awarded SAFETY Act Designation for its PATH Tunnel Breach Mitigation System

May 22, 2025: PATH Receives SAFETY Act Designation

Aluma is proud to have represented our client, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in securing the renewal of its SAFETY Act Designation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. This award recognizes the Port Authority’s Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) Tunnel Breach Mitigation System, a multi-layered approach for the detection, prevention, and mitigation of terrorist attacks using improvised explosive devices—an effort Aluma was honored to support.

PATH remains the first and only rail transit system in the country to receive SAFETY Act protections. This renewed Designation extends coverage to the risk assessments, architectural safeguards, and engineering strategies that embed security directly into the system’s infrastructure—protecting a vital transportation corridor that serves more than 50 million riders annually.

This achievement reflects both the Port Authority’s continued leadership in infrastructure security and Aluma’s commitment to helping clients pursue and maintain SAFETY Act protections for complex, high-profile environments.
